The Work and Pensions Secretary, known in full as the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, is an official within the Government of the United Kingdom and head of the Department for Work and Pensions. The office is a cabinet-level position. The position of Work and Pensions Secretary is not currently in use.
The main responsibilities of the Work and Pensions Secretary are to oversee the basic state pension, the distribution of benefits and allowances, and disabilities.
The Work and Pensions Secretary often works closely with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, and the Secretary of State for Education due to the overlap between their respective roles.
