Jamestg joined the Model House of Commons in February 2015, opting to join the Conservative Party. He described his economic stance as right wing, his social stance as moderately right wing and added that he was extremely passionate about education.
James was elected as an MP for the party in November 2015, after a close Conservative by-election, defeating demx9. After just a few weeks in office, he was appointed Under-Secretary for Communities and Local Government, a role in which he served until February 2016.
In the February 2016 Shadow Cabinet reshuffle, jamestg was made Shadow Secretary of State for Communities, Local Government and Health, as well as Shadow Minister for England. During his tenure, he successfully passed the 'Expansion of Science Parks Bill' with comfortable cross-party support.
Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government (April 2016 - October 2016)
Following the formation of a Conservative-Liberal-National Liberal coalition government, jamestg was promoted to Government to the position of Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. After a short break from the House, jamestg released a Statement of Intent that had the main aim of boosting local retail trade. It was passed with bipartisan support. The legislation related to this SOI, while largely written, did not make it past the party drafting stages. James remained in this position until the the end of the 23rd Parliamentary Term.
Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party and Defection (October 2016 - April 2017)
In November 2016, jamestg was elected Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party after Tanqueray91 was elected Leader. The election was seen as a vote for 'fresh blood', after James defeated the established member Rakas21. In December 2016, jamestg dramatically resigned from all political offices held and also from the Conservative Party. Tanqueray91 revealed that this was so he could focus on exams. James defected to the Libertarian Party in April 2017 but retired from the House soon after.
