Libertarian Party (February 2017 - present)
Gladstone1885 is the former Leader of the Libertarian Party.
Early Career (November 2016 - present)
Gladstone1885 joined the Model House of Commons in November 2016. He originally wanted to join the Conservative Party but then was persuaded to join the Liberal Party instead. He became an MP almost instantly, gaining a seat after the 24th General Election. However, Gladstone left the party in January 2017 when ByronicHero first put forward his proposal for a new Libertarian Party. Byronic appointed Gladstone1885 and the second-in-command of the project. When in February 2017, Byronic took a break from the House for a few days, Gladstone decided to take charge of the project and oversaw the formation of the party. He remained interim Leader until an official leadership election had been carried out. However, following his victory in this election, Gladstone1885 became the permanent leader. The Leader before him had been TalentedLobster in the party's first era.
Gladstone1885 considers himself a classical liberal, holding the opinion that the NHS is in need of serious privatisation whilst still upholding the principle of universal access. Furthermore, he supports a two-tiered system of education, wherein the government funds vouchers that parents can use to send their children to private schools. His ideal tax system combines a flat Land Tax with a single rate of VAT with no exemptions, and he opposes deficit spending in all circumstances. He is a passionate advocate for proportional representation, universal voter registration and House of Lords reform. He is a supporter of drug legalisation, handgun legalisation and the legalisation of prostitution.
