Coalition proceedings collapsed when the Conservative Party disputed the constitutional legitimacy of a three-party coalition; given only two-party coalitions had formed prior to this point and given the vagueness of the Constitution at the time. As such, whether the intended Liberal Democrat/Socialist/ Labour coalition or the intended Conservative/ Libertarian coalition should be allowed to form government was a hotly contested issue. The sitting Speaker, daniel_williams, decided to annul government in order to allow the Constitution to be clarified without partisan interference; the result of this constitutional crisis was that no government sat for the duration of the term.

In December 2011, the Centre Party became inactive, having formed an unofficial agreement that all remaining active members would be guaranteed places within the with the Liberal Democrat Party. This saw the former lose the three seats it had secured for Parliament XIV. In February of 2012, an amendment was passed to allow for the Speaker to hold a by-election for all of the empty seats. The Model House of Common's First By-election was held in March 2012.

3rd By-Election[]

Following the suspension of independent MP Internetguru from the House a by-election was held in January 2013.

The election was contested by three candidates, representing three separate blocs of parties. The governing Labour-Socialist coalition fielded Superunknown17, and were initially endorsed by the Green Party. However, the latter switched allegiance to the Liberal Democrat candidate, Stanlas2, prior to the start of the election. This caused a lot of controversy during the election debate, with a great deal of acrimonious arguing between Government and Green Party MPs. The Conservative candidate won the election, lending weight to the accusation that the Green Party split the left-of-centre vote.

The results were as follows:

The General Election for the Seventeenth Parliament took place between March and April 2013. The candidate tehFrance stood illegally, having been banned from TheStudentRoom before the election took place. However, the Speaker was unaware of this until after the election, and as such tehFrance was a ballot option and received enough votes for a seat. After the election, his candidacy was declared illegal and his seat redistributed.
