The Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (often shortened to Deputy Prime Minister) is the second most senior official in Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom. The current Deputy Prime Minister, Afcwimbledon2, Leader of the Liberal Party, took office on 17 August 2017.
If there is a one party Government, the Deputy Leader of the government party normally resumes the role of Deputy Prime Minister. If there is a coalition Government, the Leader of the second biggest coalition party normally resumes the role. However, this is not always the case.
The main responsibility of the Deputy Prime Minister is to oversee the running of the Government in the absence of the Prime Minister. This includes taking part in Prime Minister's Questions. However, they may also be asked to manage certain areas of Government by the Prime Minister when the latter is present.
